66°North marks its centenary with the Snæfell shell jacket
@66north built the Snæfell shell jacket for its 2016 to 2026 decade in the brand's centennial series. Guide Leifur, who has led expeditions to Everest, the Seven Summits and both poles, wears it as what 66°North calls its most versatile shell jacket.

66°North started in 1926 making oilskins for Icelandic fishermen
In 1926, Icelandic fishermen needed garments that protected against harsh conditions. Hans Kristjánsson moved to Norway to learn how to tailor and sew fishermen's clothing, then founded the company at Suðureyri in Súgandafjörður that is now @66north. He called it Sjóklæðagerð Íslands, and its early garments were oil-borne canvas anoraks. From 1928 the company supplied Icelandic search and rescue teams, and its own heritage account says it still does a century on. The present name comes from the latitudinal line of the Arctic Circle, which touches Súgandafjörður. #66north technicaloutdoor
